Sea voyages

The other day I read an article in the Guardian about travelling across the Atlantic by boat. I have done that. 5 times in fact. But a long time ago. It did get me thnking and I had a look at the Cunard site. Cliff and I are celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary next June and wouldn't it be great to take the Queen Mary 2 from Southampton to New York next year and then go up to Canada by train. I sent for a brochure and it arrived today. My goodness what wonderful state rooms! Some are bigger than my house. I had hoped to go to Cuba in February but we can't becaue of my chemo. We can't go at Easter either because I'll just be finishing the radiotherapy. A boat voyage in June sounds good. My only concern is that Castro may die before I ever do get to Cuba.

Just a few more days till Christmas. I haven't managed to do all my present shopping but I just don't have the energy and so I'm not going to worry about it. Tomorrow I finish with what we need for Christmas dinner (including fish for Marketa). I'm not good with fish so I hope I get it right.

How are your plans going?

Wow, it's hitting in that you and Cliff have been married 30 years....you are an amazing couple.

You're the only person I know who has done multiple trans Atlantic boat crossings. An anniversary cruise would be fitting.

It sounds like you've got everything set for Christmas. I find the most reliable way to cook a fillet of fish is to poach it in white wine and garnish with lemon and a handful of chopped herbs. Over cooking is the only thing that can really go wrong and that doesn't usually happen when you are poaching. If you wanted to do something more elaborate, you could stuff a small whole fish and bake it under a foil cover. The fillet is easier.

I'm taking a break from playing bake shop. I've five more tins to fill with cookies and tie with ribbons and everything will be checked off on my Kitchen Elf to do list.

About Cuba, I picked up a book at the library today, After Fidel--the Inside Story of Castro's Regime and Cuba's Next Leader by Brian Latell who seems to be a former intelligence officer. It was published in 2005 so isn't strictly current. The news here now giving the impression that Fidel is ill but not as ill as previously thought. Hard to know what is truth and what is hype.

more later....love, mj
